Before and after care

Follow the advice given to you at your appointment, and contact Skin9 Studio if you are unsure.

Microchanneling: Before Care
  • Pause active skincare products. Avoid retinol and exfoliating acids for at least 48–72 hours before treatment unless your provider recommends a different preparation period.
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure. Protect your skin from sunburn and tanning before your appointment.
  • Avoid other intensive treatments. Inform Sarah about recent chemical peels, laser procedures, injectable treatments or other skin resurfacing procedures. Additional spacing between treatments may be required.
  • Avoid treating irritated skin. Notify Sarah if you have an active infection, cold sore, rash, significant irritation or open wound in the proposed treatment area.
  • Disclose medical information. Inform Sarah about relevant health conditions, medications, allergies, healing concerns and previous skin reactions. Do not stop prescribed medications without advice from the prescribing clinician.
  • Arrive with clean skin. Arrive with clean skin, preferably without makeup.
Microchanneling: After Care
  • Immediately after your treatment. Keep your hands away from the treated area. Temporary redness, sensitivity, warmth or a mild sunburn-like sensation may occur. Use only post-treatment products approved by your provider. Avoid makeup until your provider confirms it is safe, generally for at least 24 hours and longer if your skin remains irritated or the device protocol requires it.
  • The first 24 hours. Avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sweating, saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs and swimming. Avoid touching, rubbing or massaging the treated skin. Do not use makeup, exfoliants, retinoids or irritating active ingredients. Follow Sarah's cleansing instructions. If cleansing is permitted, use clean hands and a gentle cleanser. Avoid unapproved serums, facial oils, masks or home remedies.
  • Days 2–3. Continue gentle cleansing and use a fragrance-free moisturizer if approved. Avoid retinol, tretinoin, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, irritating vitamin C products, benzoyl peroxide and exfoliants until your skin has recovered and your provider advises you to resume them. Avoid scrubs, cleansing brushes, facial devices and other resurfacing treatments. Do not pick at dry skin or flakes.
  • Days 4–7 and beyond. Gradually resume your skincare routine only when your skin is calm and Sarah confirms it is appropriate. Continue sun protection using broad-spectrum SPF 30–50, following guidance on when sunscreen can be resumed. Avoid additional microchanneling, microneedling, chemical peels, lasers or intensive procedures until the recommended interval has passed. Follow your personalized treatment plan and attend recommended follow-up appointments.
  • Sun protection. Minimize direct sun exposure. Wear a wide-brimmed hat and seek shade outdoors. Resume sunscreen when advised by your provider.
  • What to avoid. Touching, rubbing or picking at treated skin. Makeup and unapproved products during early recovery. Excessive heat, sweating, swimming and friction. Retinoids, exfoliating acids and other irritating ingredients until cleared. Additional facial procedures before recovery.
  • When to contact your provider. Mild redness and sensitivity should gradually improve. Contact Skin9 Studio if you experience worsening pain, marked swelling, blistering, spreading redness, pus, fever or other signs of infection. Seek prompt medical assessment for severe or rapidly worsening symptoms.
